It is not only the natural landscapes and the sea that are admirable in Barra Grande. Animals also play a very important role in the community, especially thanks to the concern and dedication of volunteer groups active in the area. One of these groups is “Barra Pets”, which was created out of the need to provide better care for the animals of Barra Grande, particularly those that live on the streets and require attention. The group focuses on volunteer work in support of animal welfare in the region. Over the years, the impact of its initiatives has been overwhelmingly positive.

The NGO is supported by several volunteers who share the same belief: animals are not meant to suffer, and those living abandoned or roaming the streets need help and special care. With this shared vision, Barra Pets brings together friends, volunteers, local hotels, and partner businesses who collaborate to raise funds, collect donations, and provide loving and essential care for these animals. To further support its initiatives, Barra Pets also organizes events, handicraft fairs, and bingo games, all with the backing of the local community and volunteers, with most of the funds raised being directed toward animal care efforts.

The results of the group’s actions are significant. For example, the spaying and neutering procedures carried out help reduce accidents, traffic injuries, territorial marking, escapes, aggression, the risk of cancer, and overpopulation, while also increasing the animals’ life expectancy. As Barra Grande continues to grow both as a tourist destination and in terms of infrastructure, it is truly admirable to see a group that also cares deeply for the community’s animals, working with dedication and compassion to promote awareness and meaningful action.
