Barra Grande has strong and consistent winds, especially from July to December, which makes this period an excellent season for practicing kiteboarding. Because of the ideal combination of wind, sea conditions, and temperature, it has become one of the best places in the world for kitesurfing.

It is considered the perfect paradise for kitesurfers, many of whom come from Europe. It is very common to find foreigners on the beach, whether they come to learn, compete, or simply enjoy every part of this natural paradise. Alongside them, local residents and Brazilian tourists share the same space, creating a colorful and fascinating scenery with the kites and the maneuvers performed on the water.

Over time, it became so famous for kitesurfing that it eventually hosted major competitions in the sport. One example of its reputation is Arena Kite Brasil, the country’s main kite competition (the single stage of the Brazilian Kitesurfing Championship).

Thanks to the NGO Projeto Vivo (founded by Spaniards João Bosco and Isabel Lupiañez), kitesurfing has helped transform the local reality through its sports initiative. Kite Escola Paraíso is a model of success, offering free kitesurfing lessons to underprivileged children in the community, bringing social improvements to the youth and helping promote newly discovered athletes to the national sports scene.
