Kitesurfing

Kitesurfing is the main local activity in Barra Grande, largely due to the strong winds ranging from 18 to 28 knots and favorable sea conditions, which create an excellent environment, especially in the last months of the year. The sport consists of riding a board on the water while being guided by a kite, allowing riders to use the waves to perform maneuvers. Thanks to its relatively easy learning curve, kitesurfing has become one of the most sought-after extreme sports among tourists. Kitesurfing is already a defining feature of Barra Grande, transforming the local reality through sports projects and turning the beach into a stage for several competitions that attract both amateur and professional athletes. Visitors from all over the world come to Barra Grande to learn, improve their skills, or compete, making it a unique sports tourism experience that brings together people of different nationalities and skill levels.

For those interested in learning or venturing into the world of kitesurfing, equipment rental and lessons are available locally through Kite Escola Paraíso, BGKite School and GO FLY Kite School.

Kayaking or Stand-Up Paddleboarding

During periods of calmer waters and lighter winds, visitors can also enjoy Barra Grande through stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). This activity uses a board slightly larger than a surfboard and is done standing up while paddling, offering a relaxing way to admire the surrounding scenery. SUP is ideal during milder weather conditions but is available year-round. Kayaking is another popular option during calm sea conditions and lighter wind seasons. These tours often take place through mangrove areas, providing an excellent opportunity to observe the local flora and fauna up close.

Tours are available through Rota Combo: “Passeio Caiaque ou Sup, em Barra Grande (Compartilhado)” (Kayak or Stand Up Paddle Tour in Barra Grande – Shared) – Duration: approximately 3 hours – Price: R$ 160, including horse-drawn cart transportation and equipment.
